‘Nordic Walking – The Natural Workout’ Newsletter – 9th November 2018

Dear All,

The 1½-hour walks are proving to be as popular as the 1-hour walks, which is great.  I would encourage you to come along to one, if you haven’t already done so.  You may surprise yourself.  The next one is around Wigan Flashes tomorrow (Saturday) morning.  I am still trying to find suitable walks for my ‘figure of 8’ idea, in which the full walk would be 2 hours, with the second half being and hour.  Unfortunately, it is proving more challenging that I expected.

The walk last Saturday was enjoyed by all who attended.  It makes such a difference with more people.  There will always be someone walking at your speed for you to talk to and walk routes are always planned to cater for a group of walkers with different strengths & weaknesses.

I am pushing out the boundaries of the area in which we walk to provide variety.  None of the walks are more than 30mins drive for any of our members, so take a look at the program and sign up for a walk you haven’t done yet.  They are all beautiful, especially as Autumn is in full bloom.

Learn to Nordic Walk Courses

Three Learn to Nordic Walk courses are in full swing, with a total of 5 new members.  Also, those of you who are on Facebook, may have noticed my post saying that I intend to run one more course before the Christmas ‘season’ kicks in.  Therefore, if you know anyone who is interested, please get them to contact me (phone, text, e-mail, Facebook message, etc, etc, etc) and I will do my best to schedule the course to suit them.

Up Holland Beacon Lighting – Sunday 11th November

The Up Holland Beacon will be lit on Sunday at 6.30pm as part of the Armistice Day commemorations.  A few of us will be there.  I suspect the car park will be pretty full, so we plan to walk up from the village, starting at 5.30pm.

Fully details of the event can be found on https://westlancsbuzz.org/event/ww1-beacon-lighting-ceremony/

If you would like to join us, please text me or leave a comment on the post on our Members’ Facebook Page, so that I can co-ordinate the group and advise on parking.

Christmas Get-Together

There are now 10 of us interested in, and available for, a get-together on Saturday 8th December – Anne, Louise, Gail, Gaynor, Julie, Lorraine, Karen, Vicki and Susan G (plus me, of course).

The plan is to go for a walk, meeting at 11am, and follow it with Lunch, or an Afternoon Tea at Pesto’s at Appley Bridge.  Both Lunch and Afternoon Tea will be available from noon, so the choice is yours.  However, we have to book the numbers for Afternoon Tea a couple of days before, so you do have to decide in advance which you would like.  The links to the menus on the website are below.

The associated walk will be open to all and I will publish the details when they are finalised.  I have found a route on the map, but still have to walk it to ensure it is suitable.  If your name does not appear in the list of names above and you would like to join us for food, please let me know.

Future Walks

The walks for the rest of the month are listed below and I will list them on the website over the weekend.  The details for three of them (Cuerden Park, Rights of way between Shevington & Standish and Worden Park) have yet to be finalised, but the locations will not change.

The ‘Up Holland Beacon Lighting Walk’ will not be listed, as it is not an official walk.

The Friday morning walk rarely receives any bookings and I have been asked to run one on a Friday afternoon.  Therefore, I have moved the Friday walk to 2pm, with effect from next week.

Follow the link to my website to find all of the details and photographs, and to book.
