‘Nordic Walking – The Natural Workout’ Newsletter – 7th January 2019

Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and welcomed the New Year in your favourite way.  Are you ready for a 2019 full of Nordic Walking?  I hope so.  Many of you have certainly made a brilliant start – every walk during last week was booked and we saw a good turn-out at Cuerden Valley to meet Helen, who came down from Lancaster to join us.  Thankfully, the 247 people who ‘liked’ the Facebook event didn’t turn up – phew!

New Year’s Resolutions

I’m not a great one for New Year’s Resolutions, but here’s one for you to try.  Select a walk (day & time, not location) that fits in with your other commitments, put it in your diary and join it every week.  Don’t let the weather put you off, either.  Also, if you can, pick a ‘reserve’ as well, for the times life really does get in the way 😊.

Learn to Nordic Walk – 2019

The January Learn to Nordic Walk Courses are available to book via the website.  All the courses will start at 10am and the dates are:

  • Wednesday 16th January on Beacon Country Park in Up Holland.
  • Friday 18th January on Alder Lane Playing Fields / Chapel Lane Meadow in Parbold.
  • Sunday 20th January on Beacon Country Park in Up Holland.

Please spread the word among your friends and colleagues.  New Year is a time when many people think about getting active.  Tell them why you enjoy Nordic Walking and tell them about the benefits you experience, personally.  I already have bookings for all three courses, so they won’t be on their own.  If they would like to join us, but the above dates are not convenient, please tell them to contact me, so that I can ensure the next set of courses include one that they are able to attend.

I have leaflets containing the details and a couple of you have taken some already.  Please let me know, if you would like any (more).

Skiing

Just as a reminder, I will be away cross-country skiing from 24th February until 3rd March, so there will be no walks during that week.  It would be great if we could book as a group for the 2019/2020 season.  I will report back, so that you can make an informed decision.  The GoPro will have been on ‘record’, so you can see that I am telling the truth, and probably have a laugh at me!

Walks – Types & Times

In the last Newsletter, I mentioned that I would be adding a ‘slow’ walk to the programme.  I will contact those who declared an interest in order to work out the best day & time.

The days are now getting longer, and sunset is now after 4pm.  This means that the afternoon walks could now be later and still be in the daylight.  I know that some of you would like to join the Wednesday or Friday walks, but cannot get there for 2pm because you are working.  If this applies to you, please let me know your earliest time and I will put it in the melting pot.
