‘Nordic Walking – The Natural Workout’ Newsletter – 1st November 2018

Dear All,

So, November has dawned.  Did anyone celebrate Halloween last night?  Guy Fawkes will be here on Monday and, before you know it, people will start to put lights on the outside of their houses.  It’s good of them to light our way during our evening walks at this time of year 😊.

We’ve enjoyed some lovely walks in the last week, including a couple that were slightly longer at 1.5 hours.  Why not come along and join us?  The extra half hour gives us time to add a bit of variety to the route.  If you would like to join a longer walk, but can’t make it on Monday or Saturday morning, let me know and I will adjust the program accordingly.

This afternoon, I headed off to Astley Park to recce a walk.  I learned to Nordic Walk in Astley Park, and subsequently attended walks there.  However, today, I found so many tracks that I didn’t know existed.  Yes, I just headed off into the woods and found marked, pre-prepared tracks that should be usable all year round 😊.  Chorley may sound a long way to go, but it isn’t much further than Yarrow Valley and I have initially selected it for one of the longer (1.5-hour) walks, just to make it even more worth the trip 😊.

Special Walks

A couple of weeks ago, I met another Nordic Walking instructor who operates locally to discuss the possibility of working together.  The result is this Saturday’s walk.  We will be meeting in the carpark for the Beacon Country Park Visitors’ Centre & Golf Club in Up Holland and heading off through the park and the local lanes.  The route is a new one and avoids the mud 😊.  The forecast for Saturday is dry and a nice temperature, so come along and meet Janine and her group while enjoying a walk in the fresh air in the local area.  As always, we will conclude the walk with a drink in the café.

Learn to Nordic Walk Courses

There are now 3 Learn to Nordic Walk courses scheduled to start in the next week all in the Beacon Country Park in Up Holland.

  • Saturday 3rd November at 2pm.
  • Sunday 4th November at 2pm.
  • Wednesday 7th November at 10am.

I have received bookings for all three courses, but there are still spaces available.  Therefore, please spread the word to anyone you know who has indicated that they may be interested.

Christmas Get-Together

There are now 10 of us interested in, and available for, a get-together on Saturday 8th December – Anne, Louise, Gail, Gaynor, Julie, Lorraine, Karen, Vicki and Susan G (plus me, of course).

The plan is to go for a walk, meeting at 11am, and follow it with Lunch, or an Afternoon Tea at Pesto’s at Appley Bridge.  Both Lunch and Afternoon Tea will be available from noon, so the choice is yours.  However, we have to book the numbers for Afternoon Tea a couple of days before, so you do have to decide in advance which you would like.  The menus are attached and the links to the menus on the website are below.

The associated walk will be open to all and I will publish the details when they are finalised.  If your name does not appear in the list of names above and you would like to join us for food, please let me know.
